Up to 10% are internet addicts

01 December 2005

The New York Times reports that some therapists believe that 6-10% of America's 189 million internet users suffer from 'internet addiction disorder'. More and more Americans are going into therapy to break their addiction to the web, the story says, but some say that calling excessive internet use an addiction demeans those with substance dependencies.

One expert says that internet addiction is no worse than an addiction to playing the violin. Er, unless you're any good at it, I suppose.
